First Update for the Year 2014 :D

| Screenhead |Textures from cgtextures.com |

Alright, so I'm back. :'D The first few months of this year have been nicely busy: I got an internship at a game project at the Oulu Game Lab (under the Oulu University of Applied Sciences / Oamk), where I work with 2D-concept design and try to get into 3D-modeling and texturing. In addition to that on my free time I'm doing another project, so unfortunately I haven't had much time to draw at home! This should change soon enough and I'll be able to post more frequently.

The picture above has nothing to do with the game we are working on, but I'll hopefully be able to tell more about it in the future. :) However, I've been doing some clothing designs there and using textures from the aforementioned site, so I tried to texture an old sketch that I had laying around in my files. I should just draw and practice a lot, lot more still. :'D

A 8000

| Face practice | 071213 |

Finally I decided to just pick up an old magazine and draw the first interesting face that I would find (starting from the back cover). Turns out that the face that I chose is that of the Finnish artist/musician Anssi Kasitonni and apparently I made him look a lot older than he actually is (when compared to the pictures I found on the web afterwards). This took about three hours to make and the original photo that I used as reference is from the interior design magazine Deko 9/2011, p.122.

Incendiary

| Ma-Ma (Lena Headey) | Dredd 2013 | 26.10.13 |

I really wasn't sure if I could draw faces, but again I took a still from a movie (Dredd, 2013) and tried it out. This took about five hours to make.

Oblivion Scenery

| Tet | 21.10.13 |

I really liked the scenery throughout the movie Oblivion, and as I lamented in the last post that I can't seem to be able to draw quick sketches, I ended up picking a scene from the movie and trying it out. To my own shock, this was done in 30 min. I thought that I had been drawing a lot longer!

Fennec Fox

Tried how I can draw fur. The picture scanned a bit funny, because apparently I press too hard when shading, so the paper gets all wavy. Could have used a softer pen, I guess. This took about three hours to make and I wish I could do more of those kind of quick sketches, because at the moment I feel like I concentrate too much on the details when drawing from a reference.

The fennec fox was found from the pages of Daily Photos of National Geographic.

Practicing values. Took about four evenings to make, 1-2 hours at a time.

Here is the reference picture.

The Flow of Marea

 | Marea | 200913 |

Playing around with red and blue. I really need to practice drawing faces, but I'll get to it.
