New Business Cards

| Until the next ones |

I decided to make some new business cards quick for an event. Although I ended up not making it to the place itself, I somewhat like the design even if it is a bit spa-like with the palm tree on the logo and all. The picture is one from the heap I took on a cruise in Miami and even if it might not read graphic designer visually straight away, it is fairly clean in design and I feel that it represents the look I strive for at the moment (maybe less palm trees, though). The paper could be thicker and more glossy and the printer is a character (sometimes I get smooth colours, sometimes I get porridge), but I think I'll use these until I get another spur of enthusiasm with business card designs. Oh, and these took about two hours to make (with printing and cutting).

Reworking Sketches

| Reanimated |

For the past two or three weeks I have been participating in these Work in Progress-meetings with some of the members from Finconauts (a Finnish fb group for digital artists). I think I have learned a lot or at least taken into use some of the techniques that I knew were around, but didn't apply too much myself. Here is the original sketch:

With the notions I got from the meetings, I adjusted the angle in which the huge bird is (to make it more threatening), added some feeling of atmosphere and distance with the slight use of fog and flying particles (might need to work on these a bit more). AND for the setting I first created a mock-up in 3D with Blender to get the "camera" right and test the lights. I found that to be really helpful as I felt that I didn't get everything right and it actually stopped me from working on this for a while.

I would love to colour this, but we'll see if I'll get around to that.

More Linework

Another character from the same game project, again based on some of the initial sketches I made. I like how most of the lines turned out, but the design itself isn't too original with the hood and the stick. :-D

Edit: Changed the hem a bit.

Linework

I wanted to practise linework for portfolio purposes and redrew one of the main characters from the Oulu Game Lab project A Dark Continent/Exodus (adarkcontinent.com). One of my tasks there was to design the clothes for the characters. This is drawn based on my initial sketch and she is supposed to have a worn out journal in her hand, but I left it out for now as I'll continue working with this when I have more time.

Scene 01

| Still under progress |

I'm trying to figure out what to present in a gaming related art portfolio, especially, if you have to show what you can do in just a couple of images (and only in 2D). The above picture is for a game my boyfriend has been designing on and off and I've promised to do some art for it. I still need to solve some things with the light and colours and how to make scenes seem more alive in this style (add dirt and things flying around, I guess :-s).

And apparently I'm writing in English again.
